Players take on characters in shared stories, guided by rulebooks and a game master or a program. Publishers, campaign settings and local groups make up the scene. Computer adaptations, solo gamebooks and online campaigns carry the tabletop idea into other media. Dice, miniatures and conventions are part of the wider hobby.
